About Us
History
David Kateusz got his start in the swimming pool industry in the 1960’s, spending decades working in Texas, California, and Australia to master the art of swimming pool plastering. In 1987 David and his wife Allisyn formed Mid-America Pool Renovation in Kansas City in order to fill the need for swimming pool experts with an eye towards quality. They led Mid-America until 2021, when after years working with the company and learning the trade, their son, Austin Kateusz purchased it.
One challenge that presented itself in Kansas City was the effect of the freeze-thaw climate on swimming pool shells – harsh winters and ground movement resulted in surface spalling, delamination and large structural cracks. Traditional cement surfaces offered little to no remedy, but composite surfaces were beginning to gain popularity for their strength and durability. Some composite products showed good potential, but were engineered for Southern climates where pools were kept full and not exposed to freeze-thaw cycles.
Building off of existing products and enlisting the help of a local polymer chemist, we developed INTER-GLASS® – a system which combined the strength of modern composites like Kevlar™ with next-generation resins and epoxies. Mid-America Pool Renovation has been manufacturing and installing this premium surface for over thirty years since, gaining its reputation as the best long-term solution for resurfacing swimming pool interiors. Because of the demand for INTER-GLASS®, Mid-America has expanded its territory from the Kansas City metro to nationwide, even including projects in Hawaii and Guam.
As the market leader in pool resurfacing in the Midwest, Mid-America Pool Renovation has flourished – renovating over 1,000 aquatic vessels and gaining the experience and expertise to overcome the most challenging projects while creating stunning results. With over thirty years in the industry, Mid-America modernizes huge city pools, luxurious country clubs, competition swimming pools, residential pools and water parks among other amenities.
Our Employees
We employ a range of expert project managers and over 30 skilled tradesmen year-round. We are focused on creating team camaraderie while demonstrating the importance of fostering community and are constantly seeking out those who share our passion for excellence and innovation in the industry. Our focus on training is continuous, aimed at keeping our crews at the cutting edge of performance and safety.
As a second-generation swimming pool company, Mid-America Pool has identified the importance of training the next generation of pool renovation experts, priding ourselves in creating industry specific education for our niche market. One of the ways this is accomplished is through the Plaster Training Apprenticeship Program developed by our senior staff of experts to thoroughly educate our upcoming tradesmen, ensuring they are prepared for renovating a wide range of unique projects.
