“What needed to be done”
The cement surface of the Leisure Pool at the Roosevelt Swim Center was 17 years old! Cement-based surfaces typically last for about 5-10 years so a resurfacing was much needed. In addition to the age of the surface, its issues were further exacerbated during the shut down due to Covid-19 in 2020, when the pool was drained and then left empty. The surface was rough and worn, with cracks, surface etching, and spots where the existing plaster had delaminated from the surface, exposing the rough gunite finish of the pool shell.

“How it was done”
This project was completed in August 2021. Our crew started by carefully grinding and chipping beneath all the existing tile because it was still in good condition and did not need replaced. The remainder of the surface was then removed through hydroblasting and a Super Blue Diamond Brite interior was installed.
