Project Outline

Mid-America Pool Renovation revitalized the large indoor aquatic complex for the City of Mission, addressing years of chemical and heat-related surface decay. The facility’s original white plaster had become yellowed, rough, and abrasive, causing discomfort for swimmers and experiencing significant adhesion failure. Our team performed a comprehensive pool reconstruction to prepare the shell for a premium, textured finish that would stand up to the high-demand indoor environment.

Project Specifications:

Challenges Solved

  • Spalling & Yellowing:  Heat and chemically treated indoor water had deteriorated the original smooth finish; this was resolved by brush blasting away the weakened top layer.
  • Material Thickness Requirements:  The choice of Pebblecrete required a deeper removal of existing plaster (6–8 inches) around fixtures to accommodate the thicker new coating.
  • Substrate Adhesion:  Years of "drying and wetting" cycles had compromised the shell's bond; a specialized SGM bond coat was applied throughout to ensure the new surface adhered permanently.
  • Patron Safety:  The rough surface had become painful for children's feet; the new mist-cured Pebblecrete restored a safe and comfortable swimming environment.

Special Considerations

  • Mechanical Extraction:  Existing plaster was mechanically removed to a significant depth around the waterline tiling and pool lights to ensure a seamless transition with the new material.
  • UHP Hydro-blasting:  Following brush blasting, high-pressure water blasting (>5000 psi) was used to finalize the cleaning and expose a sound substrate.
  • Indoor Logistics:  Renovating a complex indoor facility with a lazy river required careful management of dust and debris during the intensive removal phase.
  • Specialized Curing:  The Pebblecrete was mist-cured to achieve optimal strength and expose the decorative pebbles for a premium reflective finish.

From Our Team

“Re-surfacing with Pebblecrete results in a thicker surface coating than re-plastering with pool plaster or Diamond Brite.”
