Project Outline

Mid-America Pool Renovation executed a multi-faceted, complete pool renovation to modernize the aquatic facilities at the Davenport Country Club. The existing pool suffered from aging infrastructure, including undersized circulation lines that did not meet new VGB commercial standards, and an unsightly, peeling painted finish. Our team stripped the vessel to its core, utilizing Hydro-Blasting prep to remove numerous layers of old paint and preparing the structure for a total mechanical and aesthetic transformation.

Challenges Solved

  • Non-Compliant Infrastructure:  The original circulation lines were undersized for modern safety requirements; the team excavated the site to install larger diameter suction and return lines, along with new main drain sumps.
  • Extensive Structural Fractures:  The entire shallow end was plagued by deep structural cracks, which were resolved using high-grade epoxy and Kevlar® reinforcement via the InterSteel method.
  • Unusual Vessel Depth:  The pool’s unique depth required the use of specialized two-tiered scaffolding to safely perform sandblasting and resurfacing operations.
  • Failed Surface Finish:  Layers of peeling and chalking paint had created a "patched" appearance; these were completely removed to allow for a fully-bonded INTER-GLASS® finish.

Special Considerations

  • Custom Gutter Engineering:  The team cut off the top of the existing pool walls to install new stainless steel gutters and a sectioned grating system that allows for periodic inspections.
  • Off-Set Accessibility:  To ensure new entry steps did not interfere with racing lanes during swimming competitions, a portion of the shallow end wall was specifically cut out for an off-set step configuration.
  • High-Performance Filtration:  The project included the installation of a massive new filter system comprising six 36-inch sand filters to ensure superior water clarity.
  • Competition Ready Aesthetics:  The restoration was finalized with frost-proof racing lane, target, and depth transition tiling, restoring the pool’s status as a premier competition venue.

From Our Team

“Due to the pool’s unusual depth, two sets of scaffolding had to be used during sandblasting and re-surfacing… Structure cracks were filled with a high-grade epoxy and permanently sealed with the InterSteel Crack Repair method using Kevlar®.”
