Savior Pastoral Center | Kansas City, KS

Project Outline

Mid-America Pool Renovation completely renovated the Savior Pastoral Center swimming pool, which had fallen into a state of severe neglect and operational failure. Originally constructed in the late 1950s, the facility suffered from a dark, unappealing aesthetic and critical infrastructure decay that caused significant water loss into the corridors below. Our team delivered a high-performance pool restoration that modernized the pool’s safety and aesthetics while working within the constraints of a complex, elevated structure.

Challenges Solved

  • Severe Infrastructure Corrosion:  The original steel recirculation lines were so badly corroded and rust-filled that water could no longer flow through them.
  • Catastrophic Leaking:  Separated deck drains and gutter suction lines allowed pool water to pour freely onto corridors and walkways beneath the pool.
  • Structural Wall Failure:  Water leaching through the concrete basin left unsightly calcium deposits and caused active leakage on exterior corridor walls.
  • Outdated Safety Standards:  The facility featured a single main drain sump that had to be completely updated to meet current VGB Code requirements.

Special Considerations

  • Scaffolding-Based Removal:  Because the existing steel lines were elevated, our crew had to perform the cutting and manual removal from scaffolding in the surrounding corridors.
  • Wall Penetration Engineering:  New recirculation lines were meticulously cored through the concrete walls, while the failed old steel lines were permanently sealed and covered.
  • Structural Reinforcement:  After scarifying the existing tile, the team installed multiaxial fabrics and a Protective Barrier to ensure the new polymeric finish remained watertight.
  • Aesthetic Modernization:  A white INTER-GLASS® interior, accented with black racing lanes and targets and light beige decking, was used to brighten the previously dark, green-tiled room.
  • Mechanical Completion:  The project was finalized with the installation of a new 15hp pool pump and an automatic water leveler to ensure future operational stability.

From Our Team

“Given the condition of the cracked concrete walls, re-surfacing with a Cement-based material was not practical. A white INTER-GLASS® interior… served to seal surfaces from water loss and brighten the room.”
