When the Forsyth Neighborhood Pool at Fort Riley began experiencing widespread failure of its recently installed interior finish, the facility needed more than a cosmetic repair, it needed a long-term solution. Shortly after a previous renovation, the plaster and waterline tile showed signs of bond failure, leaving hollow areas beneath the surface along with loose and missing tile.
Mid-America Pool Renovation was selected to restore the pool by removing the worn materials, properly preparing the existing shell, and installing a durable new finish designed to provide years of reliable performance. Located on a military installation, the project also required careful coordination, security compliance, and efficient execution to prepare the pool for the upcoming swim season.
Inspection of the existing pool revealed that the interior finish had failed beyond what could be addressed with localized repairs. Rather than applying another finish over compromised materials, the project began with a complete hydroblasting process to remove the failed plaster layers and expose a sound substrate for the new finish.

One of the most important aspects of this project was determining why the recently installed interior finish had failed. While pools are often replastered over existing finishes using a bonding agent such as Bond Kote® when conditions are appropriate, that approach is only as reliable as the surface beneath it. If the existing plaster has already lost its bond to the concrete shell, a bond coat cannot correct the underlying problem. Instead, the new finish becomes dependent on a compromised substrate, greatly increasing the risk of future failure.
After evaluating the pool, Mid-America Pool Renovation determined that multiple layers of material needed to be completely removed before a new interior finish could be installed. Hydroblasting provided the thorough surface preparation necessary to create a strong bond between the existing concrete shell and the new plaster, helping ensure the long-term durability of the renovation.
Today, the Forsyth Neighborhood Pool features a durable new interior finish, updated waterline tile, and the confidence that comes from addressing the underlying cause of the previous failure rather than applying another short-term fix.
