Project Assessment

"What needed to be done"

This Quality Inn pool was originally constructed with galvanized walls, a vermiculite floor pool, and fiberglass molded entry steps. The pool was then covered with a vinyl liner. A few years after construction, the vinyl liner ripped, folds in the liner began to appear throughout the pool, and naturally the pool lost a significant amount of water through the unsealed or protected pool floor. Unable to open the pool or pass inspections, the Owners searched for a permanent solution to the problems the pool was experiencing. They chose to have the INTER-GLASS® Reinforced Polymeric System installed, thereby transforming the pool to appear as a one-piece solid structure.

Renovation Plan

“How it was done”

This Project was done in the winter of 2019, leaving a challenge of working through cold weather and particularly snow. Tearing the liner out exposed a badly deteriorated and crumbling vermiculite floor, and a steel wall surface covered with rust and badly pitted. To maintain the 3FT – 5FT depth of the pool, the vermiculite was dug out by hand to accommodate a new 4” deep gravel base, reinforcing steel and an 8” concrete floor. Holes were drilled through the base of the steel walls and into the supporting concrete beam.

Pre-formed steel bars were epoxied into the concrete beam supporting the steel walls, followed by #4 reinforcement on a 12” on centers grid. Once the steel was in place and securely Bonded, a concrete floor was laid. The pool walls were sandblasted with silica sand to the ‘Very thorough blast cleaning’ ISO Sa 2-1/2 Standard, and immediately coated with a Zinc rich resin to prevent flash rusting. Ceramic waterline tiling was installed, followed by installation of the INTER-GLASS® Reinforced Polymeric System
