Artesian Park Pool | Clinton, MO

Wave Divider

Project Outline

Mid-America Pool Renovation was commissioned to completely renovate the pool in Artesian Park, a facility that had not seen a major overhaul since its original construction in 1968. For decades, the city relied on a limited annual budget to repaint isolated sections of the pool, leading to a patchwork of uneven, failing layers. The city eventually chose to abandon the high-maintenance cycle of painting in favor of a permanent, industrial-grade surfacing solution.

An empty outdoor swimming pool with a dry, worn surface. In the background, there is a waterslide, lifeguard chairs, and a small building. The atmosphere is quiet and deserted.
Man wearing gloves applies plaster to a large concrete wall, creating a smooth surface. The scene conveys a sense of manual labor and construction.

Project Specifications:

An empty outdoor pool under renovation with workers painting the floor. Paint cans and tools are scattered around. A large red slide is in the background.
Empty outdoor swimming pool with white walls and black lane lines. The pool deck is visible on the left, and the space conveys a calm, deserted vibe.

Challenges Solved

  • Extreme Paint Accumulation:  Decades of partial repainting resulted in "layers and layers" of paint that made the pool surface incredibly rough and prone to failure.
  • Concrete Degradation:  The pool walls had worn down to a "coral-like" state, developing deep porous holes that compromised the shell’s integrity.
  • Structural Cracking:  Over time, significant cracks had appeared across the floor and walls, necessitating professional sealing and reinforcement.
  • Uneven Substrate:  The varying layers of paint and worn concrete created an inconsistent surface that required leveling to ensure a flush finish.

Special Considerations

  • Precision Paint Removal:  Our team utilized hydro-blasting to strip every layer of old paint, reaching the original concrete to ensure a superior mechanical bond for the new system.
  • Wall and Floor Rendering:  A new concrete surface was rendered along one side of the pool and specific sections of the floor to correct structural voids and make the entire basin flush.
  • Complete Surface Sealing:  In addition to the main shell, the INTER-GLASS® system was applied to the gutters to ensure the entire circulation perimeter was watertight and easy to maintain.
  • Integrated Race Markings:  After rendering the surface, the team set new tiled racing lanes and targets directly into the substrate for permanent competitive visibility.

From Our Team

“The walls were worn down and had developed porous holes, making it almost like coral in places. The city was ready to hang up their paintbrushes and find a long-lasting solution!”
