Project Outline

Mid-America Pool Renovation restored the historic City of Herington pool, a massive 1940s-era facility that had undergone numerous temporary repairs over its 60-year lifespan. Our team undertook a large-scale pool resurfacing and modernization to eliminate chronic algae growth and staining, replacing outdated painted markings with permanent, climate-durable materials.

Project Specifications:

Challenges Solved

  • Chronic Algae Growth:  Porous plaster and shrinkage cracks had become a breeding ground for black algae; this was resolved by stripping the surface clean and sealing it with a non-porous composite.
  • Fading Markings:  Painted racing lanes and targets that faded and chalked annually were replaced with permanent, frost-proof tiling across eight lanes.
  • Pore Contamination:  Specialized stain removal and water blasting were required to deep-clean the shell before the protective barrier could be applied.
  • Surface Deterioration:  The 13-foot deep oval shell required a complete resurfacing to address decades of wear and tear.

Special Considerations

  • Pressure Management:  To protect the shell from groundwater pressure, an additional hydrostatic relief port was installed during the renovation.
  • UHP Surface Prep:  The team utilized water-blasting at pressures exceeding 5,000 psi to ensure a perfectly sanitized substrate for bonding.
  • Safety & Aesthetics:  New non-glazed step markings and depth transition tiles were installed to enhance swimmer safety and visual clarity.
  • Dual Pool Restoration:  The project scope successfully covered over 10,000 square feet, providing a uniform INTER-GLASS® finish for both the large main pool and the kiddy pool.

From Our Team

“A pool that had originally been built in the 1940’s and had undergone several re-plastering jobs now opted for the more permanent, climate durable INTER-GLASS® System.”
