Project Outline

A comprehensive structural conversion and cosmetic rejuvenation was performed on a 33-year-old residential pool that had only been replastered twice in its history. The homeowners possessed a highly specific, vibrant vision for their property, collaborating closely on all material selections. The project successfully turned a standard backyard pool into an engaging, customized oasis tailored specifically for the clients’ grandchildren.

Challenges Solved

  • Complex Multi-Phase Logistics:  Managing a highly detailed residential project in the Denver region requires precise scheduling across distinct construction phases to maximize crew efficiency. The team successfully segmented the workflow, completing the major demolition and sun shelf pour in the fall, tile and coping in early winter, and final decorative deck work and plaster in early spring.
  • Severe Spring Weather Intervention:  On the day of the final plaster installation in late April, an unexpected, heavy snowstorm hit the region. To protect the curing surface, crews rapidly constructed a protective tent over the entire pool basin. Team members worked continuously in rotation to knock heavy snow accumulation off the canopy to prevent it from collapsing into the wet plaster.
  • Footprint & Subsurface Engineering:  Adding the new sun shelf required partial demolition of the existing deck, deep excavation, and the careful rerouting of underlying plumbing lines, including the successful replacement of two failing skimmers.

Special Considerations

  • Seasonal Timing:  By utilizing an off-season schedule spanning from fall to spring, the team completed all disruptive structural heavy lifting during months when the backyard was not in use, ensuring the pool was ready for the warm weather.
  • Unique Material Solutions:  Embracing the clients' affinity for pastels, the team stained the newly textured deck a bright blue and the coping a crisp white, creating an eye-catching, custom-tailored visual contrast against the home's yellow exterior.
  • Detail-Driven Finish Work:  In addition to the custom steps and sun shelf, the team precisely set new waterline tile and seamlessly integrated custom decorative mosaics into the new white plaster pool floor.

From Our Team

“He wanted a backyard oasis for his grandchildren. They LOVE pastels, so yellow house, blue deck. I was pleasantly surprised how well it all turned out. Customers were VERY involved with material selection, had a specific vision they wanted to come to life.”
