Project Outline

Mid-America Pool Renovation completed a specialized renovation project of an indoor swimming pool in 2008 at Southwestern Oklahoma State University. The pool was experiencing persistent leakage and surface deterioration but required a cost-conscious solution that avoided full circulation replacement or complete interior resurfacing.

Project Specifications:

Challenges Solved

  • Corroded Infrastructure:  All 16 return line inlet fittings had deteriorated. Workers carefully excavated through the deck and pool wall to reach the transition points where these lines met the main return.
  • Subsurface Plumbing Transition:  The project required careful navigation to replace old fittings with new Schedule 80 PVC while ensuring the 6-inch cast-iron main return line remained uninjured during the transition.
  • Surface Discoloration:  Years of stains and calcium deposits were stripped away through thorough cleaning and high-pressure water blasting to restore the pool’s visual appeal.
  • Structural Leakage:  Degraded grout across the entire pool surface was contributing to water loss, necessitating a full re-grouting of the interior.

Special Considerations

  • Targeted Tile Extraction:  To preserve the original finish, 4-inch squares of tile were precisely removed around each inlet to allow for new 2-inch holes to be drilled through the pool wall.
  • Rigorous Leak Testing:  Pressure checks were repeatedly placed on the system throughout the transition to confirm that no additional deterioration existed in the main lines.
  • Professional Standards:  All replacement tile work and re-grouting were executed to meet strict ANSI & TCA installation standards, ensuring a durable and compliant finish.
  • Budget-Friendly Transformation:  By focusing on high-fail areas and comprehensive cleaning, the team restored a "beautiful blue reflective look" without the cost of a complete resurfacing.

From Our Team
