Project Outline

Mid-America Pool Renovation was called in to save a “Shot-crete Job Gone Wrong” in Grant City after a previous contractor left the municipal pool in a state of disastrous incompletion. The prior attempt suffered from underestimated materials, rampant settlement cracks due to an overly wet mix, and rough, unfinished walls. We have performed a structural pool rescue and reconstruction to correct these structural failures and provide the city with a smooth, professional-grade facility.

Project Specifications:

Challenges Solved

  • Rampant Settlement Cracks:  An improper wet mix used by the previous contractor resulted in extensive cracking across the pool floor, which required specialized InterSteel reinforcement.
  • Sectional Pour Bonding:  Because months had passed since the original concrete work, the team had to use advanced bonding agents and mechanical prep to ensure the new concrete gaps were finished correctly.
  • Rough Concrete Finishes:  The pool walls and entry steps were so rough they required a complete cement-render job to create a smooth surface ready for finishing.
  • Subsurface Joint Reflection:  Expansion joints from the original 1960s pool had to be located and opened to prevent them from reflecting cracks through the new shot-crete shell.

Special Considerations

  • Structural Rescue:  Mid-America had to correct improperly extended steel reinforcement that had been left protruding into the decking area.
  • Hopper Bottom Rebuilding:  Structural joints at the bottom of the deep end were exposed and completely rebuilt into the new INTER-GLASS® surface to ensure watertight integrity.
  • Aesthetic Correction:  The original plan for epoxy paint was abandoned in favor of a polymeric finish to better hide the irregularities of the corrected concrete work.
  • Complete Infrastructure Prep:  The city took the opportunity to replace old metal circulation lines with modern PVC and install a new concrete cantilever pour around the perimeter.

From Our Team

“To combat these irregularities and problems with the pool surface, and several sectional pours, the InterSteel Crack Repair Method and INTER-GLASS® Reinforced Composite System were installed.”
