Project Outline

Mid-America Pool Renovation delivered a full interior renovation to revitalize the large, holodomed pool at the Holiday Inn – Midtown, which had been plagued by years of failing maintenance. The structure was burdened by layers of blistering and peeling paint that had failed to solve a persistent yellowing, stained appearance. Because the pool sat in the heart of an operating hotel near a restaurant, our team utilized advanced containment and ventilation to execute the overhaul without disrupting guest services.

Project Specifications:

Challenges Solved

  • Persistent Paint Failure:  Repeated layers of old pool paint continued to blister and chalk, requiring total removal via abrasive blasting to reach a sound concrete substrate.
  • Operational Environment:  Working yards away from an active restaurant required the entire pool area to be tarped to prevent dust and debris from escaping into public spaces.
  • Air Quality and Safety:  To remove residual fumes and dust from the hotel interior, specialized ventilation units and extensive tubing were installed to maintain air circulation during the renovation.
  • Outdated Safety Standards:  The pool lacked proper step and depth demarcations; these were restored through new tile work and safety markings to meet modern requirements.

Special Considerations

  • Holodome Logistics:  Renovating a large indoor pool in a holodome setting required specialized attention to air flow and containment to protect the hotel's delicate interior environment.
  • High-Pressure Preparation:  Following abrasive blasting, high-pressure water blasting (>5000 psi) was used to sanitize and finalize the surface for the new composite system.
  • Mechanical Tile Removal:  The aging, outdated waterline tiling was mechanically removed to make way for modern, high-durability replacements.
  • Containment Engineering:  The use of custom tarping and ventilation tubing ensured that the "Holodome" remained operational and pleasant for guests throughout the intensive technical work.

From Our Team
